The Panasonic Lumix GH3 shoots very high quality video for a compact DSLR camera. This summer I was first introduced to this camera while filming weddings with the company Imagination Designers. A very powerful camera that is not intimidating to operate. Here are five reasons why it stands apart from the competition for shooting live events.
SPECS
A video recording mode of 1080p at 60 fps. It’s competitor, the Canon 5D Mark III, only records at 720 while in 60fps.
SIZE
The lightweight body allows for smooth motion capturing and transportation. I recommend using accessories like a slider dolly, monopod, and steadicam. The small body and adequate equipment make it easy for a single photographer shooting a multi-camera event. They usually need to pack light because he/she will have several bags to carry solo.
PRICE
An affordable camera with the body averaging around $1,100.
AUTOFOCUS
A continuous autofocus (AFC) feature allows you to operate a steadicam with both hands off the body and lens. This allows the photographer to set a low aperture for a sharp depth of field while retaining focus.
CONTINUOS SHOOTING
You can shoot continuously until your SD card fills up. This is a necessary function for shooting live events. The Canon 5D Mark III can only shoot continuously for up to 20 minutes.
